Outsider rockabilly musician who counts among his cult following David Bowie

The Legendary Stardust Cowboy isn’t for everyone; his ‘hit,’ the 1969 rockabilly assault “Paralyzed,” features prominently on lists of both the worst and best recordings of all time, depending on your persuasion. Born Norman Carl Odom, The Legendary Stardust Cowboy counts among his cult following David Bowie, who was so inspired by Odom that Ziggy’s surname is actually a reference to the ‘outsider’ musician. A lifelong fan of his wild and unhinged performances and songwriting, Bowie even covered one of his songs on 2002’s Heathen, the tripped out “I Took a Trip on a Gemini Spaceship.”
