Twentywonder, self-billed as “a carnival of the mind,” is not just an eclectic evening jam-packed with myriad cultural attractions – it’s also an annual event that raises big bucks for the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles (DSALA). Hosted by the LA Derby Dolls, scheduled to engage in a high-energy all-star bout with the San Diego Derby Dolls, the event also features masked Mexican wrestlers Lucha VaVoom; live musical performances from Vaud & the Villains, Matthew Sweet, lounge act The Lampshades (featuring Kate Flannery of “The Office” and Scot Robinson), and Sam Phillips; never-before-seen-artifacts from The Ernie Kovacs Wonder Cabinet; the celluloid enthusiasts of Cinefamily; pop surrealistic portraits from Tim Biskup and Ego Killers; and much, much more. Last year’s event raised over $100,000 for DSALA, with proceeds going to families living with Down Syndrome, basketball camps in Koreatown and El Segundo, yoga for teens and newborns, UCLA medical research projects, and more.
