A street celebration with children's activities, live entertainment, and delicious food
Union Street Easter Parade & Spring CelebrationFree
Take in the festive sights, sounds and scents of spring at Union Street’s 23rd Annual Easter Parade & Spring Celebration in San Francisco on Sunday, April 20 from 10am – 5pm on Union Street, between Gough and Fillmore Streets. Set in San Francisco’s renowned historic shopping district, this fun-filled day is packed with free events, children’s activities, live entertainment, delicious food and, of course, the ever-so-popular Easter Bonnet Contest. Look for appearances from the Easter Bunny, as well as an interactive show by The Radio Disney Road Crew.
Proudly boasting the nickname, “The Biggest Little Parade in San Francisco,” the Union Street Easter Parade is a fabulous procession showcasing all that is wonderful, unique, wacky and elegant about the San Francisco Bay Area. Beginning at 2 p.m. at the corner of Gough Street and Union Street, nearly 50 parade contingents with hundreds of enthusiastic participants will make their way down the five blocks of Union Street to Fillmore Street. Over the years, this wildly colorful parade has seen everything from vintage cars, roller blading cows and sophisticated fashion to innovative floats and costumed characters. The public is invited to join in the parade for free.
There will be a variety of children’s and family activities available throughout the day, including kids’ rides and games, inflatable bounce houses, a climbing wall, a petting zoo, pony rides, as well as an area offering hands-on children’s activities. Parents and kids can work together to make animals out of clay, craft sticks, feathers and pipe cleaners.
The main stage, located at Union and Buchanan Streets will feature live entertainment for all ages. Check the event website www.SRESproductions.com for updated schedule of events.
Returning this year will be an extra-special visit from The Radio Disney Road Crew, who will come equipped for hands-on family fun with upbeat, good tunes, lively games and contests and cool prizes and giveaways. Catch them on the Main Stage. Visit Radio Disney’s “Imagination Destination” - an interactive booth where kids can take an instant challenge. Be sure to visit the SFMOMA booth where people can enjoy activities for all ages exploring the themes and concepts from works in their collection. Make your own paper hat inspired by Henri Matisse’s Femme Au Chapeau, as SFMOMA will have everything you need to create your own custom-made bonnet. This is a fun and hands-on way to create your own over-the-top and colorful hat for the day. Other parade and festival participants this year include Hot & Sizzling Grill, Aroma Concessions, YoungPunks, Falbrecht Studios, James Osorio, Amos Goldbaum, Sherri Bows, KOFY TV, Mother's Cookies, and Shokomonk with more to be announced.
For the foodies, local Union Street restaurants will be open for business, serving their tastiest treats in a comfortable outdoor bistro setting. Festival favorites such as corn-dogs, smoothies, funnel cakes, gyros, & kettle corn will also be available throughout the event to feed your appetite. Creative individuals wanted! The one-of-a-kind Easter Bonnet Contest invites all children, adults, and even pets to sport their most zany, elegant or outrageous Easter hats for a chance to win prizes. Categories include Best in Show, Best Couple, Best Family, Best Pet, Best Children, Best Merchant, Most Elegant, Largest Hat, Most Comical, and Most Creative. Judging takes place from 11:15am -1:30pm at the Information Booth at Buchanan and Union and the winners will be announced at the conclusion of the parade on the main stage at 3:15pm.
