Gideon returns with his video opera, which combines live music and stop-motion animation
For those that missed him at the New Museum earlier this year, Alexis Gideon returns, this time bringing his captivating roadshow to Microscope Gallery. A musician, animator and filmmaker who has toured with Dan Deacon and played with the likes of tUnE yArDs, Zs, and Matt and Kim, Gideon creates multimedia works that are mind-boggling and completely unique. Tonight, he reminds us of the magical universe that is often right in front of us with Video Musics III: Floating Oceans, the last volume in his stunning video opera series. Drawing visual comparison to the Brothers Quay, Gideon’s 39-minute stop-motion animation explores traditional folklore and is presented with live musical accompaniment by the artist.
