This dark play outraged audiences when it opened in the 1890s — before later being popularised as an opera — and is only now making its British theatre premiere. A woman in a remote central European village falls for (then falls pregnant by) her alcoholic cousin, only to be attacked by his half-crazed, half-brother. Murder, betrayal and eventual redemption ensue. Adapted from the Czech by award-winning writer Timberlake Wertenbaker, this is the debut production from the Natural Perspective Theatre Company.
