Royal Academy of Arts says…

This exhibition celebrates the legacy of art collector Paul Mellon on the 100th anniversary of his birth. The American philanthropist first developed a passion for British artwork when he purchased George Stubbs' Pumpkin With a Stable Lad in 1936. The resulting collection of over 150 paintings, drawings and prints — some of which have not been on view to the British public since they were bought — ranges from the 15th to the 20th century. The stunning array includes oils by JMW Turner and Joshua Reynolds, as well as tiny masterpieces from celebrated miniaturist Nicholas Hilliard and rare books illustrated by William Blake.
