Matthew Barney's work is surreal and audacious, with a narrative that plays second fiddle to his bizarre and powerful imagery. The artist last demonstrated his wonderful weirdness with the huge Vaseline sculpture he presented with his Cremaster Cycle screening at Brixton's Ritzy in 2002. Now the multimedia master returns with a new gesamtkunstwerk based on his 2005 film Drawing Restraint 9. Set onboard a Japanese whaling ship, the feature stars Björk (who also wrote the soundtrack) as well as another odd display of Vaseline. Working with the artist, Serpentine mounts this ambitious exhibition with screenings from the entire series.
