Sadler's Wells says…

James Thiérrée comes from a long line of mercurial performers; he is the grandson of Charlie Chaplin and grew up in his parents' Le Cirque Imaginaire, first performing as a walking suitcase at age five. Since then, Thiérrée has ventured into theatre, music, contemporary circus work and film, including the indie-flick Bye Bye Blackbird. His charmingly inventive fantasy worlds have now toured the globe, and his performance tonight offers a surreal and magical world, full of visual tricks and tragic-comic characters. Here in Au Revoir Parapluie (Goodbye Umbrella), he is joined by a small international cast including an acrobat, a dancer, an aerialist and a singer. Collectively they allow his creativity to soar, taking everyday objects as props and weaving them into visually stunning imagery.
