Stranded in the outback with a broken-down car and only a few drops of water. It's a classic horror storyline, here transformed into physically daring dance-theatre. Splintergroup, a collective of dancers who met at the Australian Dance Theatre, turns this premise into an exploration of the remote desert, ghost stories and paranoia. Australian dance frequently packs a punch and this is no exception. The Splintergroup dancers hurl themselves around the stage, at times piling their systematic, full-pelt abuse on a battered-looking car. As part of the Barbican's Ozmosis celebration of the Australian arts scene, Splintergroup's performance uses brute physicality and athletic skill to craft a story that challenges our misconceptions of Australia's mysterious heartland.
