Transforming an everyday bodily function into a topic worthy of closer scrutiny, Take a Deep Breath ensures participants leave with a fresh perspective on breathing. The three-day seminar, held at Tate Modern, pokes and prods the cultural, social and scientific characteristics behind the involuntary act, exploring the true value of each inhale and exhale — particularly in today's climate of environmental concern. Between performances by flutist Richard Craig, visual-arts presentations by Lise Autogena and Cornelia Parker and a range of speakers including Steven Connor (Professor of Modern Literature and Theory at Birkbeck College) and Tibet-Islam researcher Georgios Halkias, there'll barely be time to — well, you know.
