It's 1964, Kennedy has been shot and the Vietnam war is about to start. At work in the Bronx, Sister Aloysius is facing more immediate concerns, however. Father Flynn is a charismatic priest at the respectable Catholic school, but his rumoured behaviour with a young student leads the sister to doubt him. What is at first a gut feeling rapidly escalates into a campaign to get him out. Questioning belief and uncertainty, the audience make their own judgments as the two leads meet in a clash of values and verbal mastery.
