Panto has undergone a cultural revolution in recent years, putting decades of stigma behind it. Yes, you can still catch Australian ex-soap stars and faces from reality TV at seaside towns, but in the capital, genuinely talented actors, writers and directors are clamouring to pull on OTT costumes and indulge in a bit of audience participation. The Old Vic last saw Ian McKellen dragging up to play Widow Twanky, and this year, fellow luvvie Stephen Fry tries his hand at the not-so-ancient art of panto writing with his own twist on Cinderella. The cast includes Sandi Toksvig as the narrator and Tittybangbang's Debbie Chazen as the Wicked Stepmother; and with the QI quizmaster at the helm, we know to expect huge helpings of wit, charm and wordsmithery (oh yes, we do).
