Japan has traditionally prized modesty and reserve, so it's little surprise to find out that the Japanese have also made an art of wrapping everything, from people and animals to furniture and gifts. This quirky little exhibition at the wonderful Horniman Museum features fashion and artefacts, from an exquisite silk uchikake (bridal gown) to a leather bamen (mask) for a parading horse, in a selection of beautiful fabric furoshiki — a Japanese alternative to wrapping paper that's making a comeback thanks to its environmentally friendly reusability.
