Art Elizabethan Flagons from St Mary Woolnoth

The Victoria & Albert's latest mini-exhibition features a set of Elizabethan flagons that return to the museum after 70 years abroad. Stroll down memory lane (not your own, of course) and explore the historical value behind these elaborately engraved jugs, believed to have been used for drinking ales or storing communion wine. Acquired by the church of St Mary Woolnoth in 1697, the pottery features monsters, plant-forms and grotesque shapes, most likely originating from Nicaise Roussel, an immigrant from Flanders.
