Kwame Kwei-Armah is a rare creature. A hospital-drama actor turned playwright, he was nominated for an Olivier Award and was also a finalist on Celebrity Fame Academy. Kwei-Armah's newest play, Let There Be Love, now premieres as part of the Tricycle's Bloomberg New Writing Scheme. Love tells the story of Alfred Morris, a bad-tempered, opinionated West Indian pensioner who forms an unlikely friendship with his Polish house cleaner Maria as he teaches her the essentials of being a British citizen. Fans of Nat King Cole will be pleased to find that the entire soundtrack is comprised of the '50s crooner's songs.
