Czech-born Pavel Büchler has spent many years investigating the theories and concepts behind art. As Research Professor of Art & Design at Manchester Metropolitan University, he has specifically examined the catalytic capacity to make things new. And yet, like any true student of the arts, Büchler isn't content to rest in his ivory tower and now ventures to London for his first solo exhibition, SOLD OUT. As you might expect from a survivor of high modernism, the work is shifting, self-referential and explicitly intellectual — even the title conveys a sense of irritating absence and unsatisfactory ambition. The exhibition, however, remains relevant and ultimately engaging by taking in drawings, projections and found objects with ease.
