Many otherwise serious-minded people use comedy to escape their troubles and forget themselves for a short while; so when humour seeps into the notoriously stiff-backed world of contemporary art, all bets are off. Laughing in a Foreign Language compiles examples of slapstick videos, satirical photographs and prankster installation works from around the globe, examining the various cultural, political and historical influences that inform different cultures' conceptions of what is funny. Whether or not laughter can change the world is up for debate — but at least we can have a bit of a giggle finding out.
