Nikolaus Geyrhalter's latest documentary provides a relentless, exposé of the industrialized meat industry. Our Daily Bread offers brutal vignettes of the numerous processes that reduce animals to tidbits, as well as voyeuristic portraits of people working in the industry. Free of narration, stunning cinematography oscillates between the picturesque and the starkly grim, and the churning soundtrack features the sounds of machines, animals and labourers. The overall effect both repels and entices the viewer into a more profound relationship with the food that passes our lips.
