Jeffrey Dennis' Extracts from the Log explores the tensions simmering beneath the surface of our beloved metropolis. In this distinctly dystopian vision, Dennis employs his distinctive painting approach to layer vast canvases with thick colour and texture. City structures are unceremoniously cracked apart to reveal a network of tunnels, pipes and channels that facilitate destructive urban expansion. One large scale piece, The Way We Live, contrasts the City’s shambolic structural underbelly with the frothy bubbles and scattered imagery of life above-ground. In doing so, Dennis successfully highlights humankind’s ongoing and often misguided need to develop.
