Canadian artist Daphne Plessner's new solo exhibition takes an uncompromising swipe at the frivolous and sexually charged meaning of being "girlie". Her series of intricate and colourful paintings gleefully and uncomfortably dissects a judgmental pop culture that makes dumb playthings of young girls. Vacuous "girlie" T-shirt slogans are juxtaposed with classic images of princesses, fairy queens and Playboy bunnies, in an attempt to skewer a society that consumes and condemns female sexuality in equal measure.
