The Courtauld Gallery traces the artistic journey of John Mallord William Turner with an exhibition beginning with early sketches and watercolours from when he was just 16 years old. Focusing on the painter's hunger for both inspirational views and personal success, the show conveys Turner's ceaseless enthusiasm for exploring and capturing the European countryside, as well as his fascination with self-promotion. The exhibition also highlights the importance of friends, collectors and patrons, many of whom helped support Turner during his career, and includes rarely seen items from private collections.
