A revolutionary photojournalist of the Edwardian age, Andrew Pitcairn-Knowles showed a particular interest in capturing leisure pursuits on camera. He accumulated scores of photographs of activities such as badger baiting, cock fighting and bicycle polo. But it was his travels to the coastal Belgian town of Ostend that truly established him as a pioneer of his trade. A keen sportsman, Pitcairn-Knowles portrayed activities such as sand yachting, kite flying and cart racing and left a remarkable catalogue of Edwardian impressions. The Museum of Childhood now features a captivating display of Pitcairn-Knowles' prints, providing a striking portrait of turn-of-the-century life.
