Between the Covers dips into the print archives of the Women's Library to explore how magazines have built relationships with readers over the centuries. The exhibition includes interviews with publishing insiders and original issues of 18th-century weekly The Ladies' Diary, '60s glossy Nova and '70s manifesto Spare Rib. The evolution of fashion spreads is tracked as well as the many guises of the agony aunt. By lining up the commercial press next to the pioneering pamphlets of the Suffragettes, Between the Covers shows the historical importance of publications that initially had the shortest of shelf lives.
