This double-header is the highlight of the NFT's month-long Coen brothers' exploration, a season devoted to the Burn After Reading directors' influences and references. Joel and Ethan's 1996 film Fargo is first, a North Dakota murder mystery featuring Frances McDormand in an Oscar-winning turn as tenacious and pregnant sheriff Marge Gunderson. A second delve into the back catalogue brings absurdist period piece Barton Fink (1991), which stars John Turturro as a playwright with a bad case of writer's block. Both movies are stonecold classics in their own right.
