Performing Arts: Dance Matthew Bourne's Edward Scissorhands

Demonstrating that Walthamstow has delivered more than early-'90s boy-banders to the world, choreographer and E17 native Matthew Bourne — whose past glories include radical adaptations of Swan Lake and The Nutcracker — turns a dab hand to Edward Scissorhands. Running for a season at Sadler's Wells, the theatrical ballet production of Tim Burton's gothic fairy tale features the distinctive music of Danny Elfman and Terry Davies, complementing the tale of a lonely, clipper-fisted lad in a suburban world. Innocently enchanting, the reworking has enjoyed international sell-out success with its contemporary take on a dance form too often weighed down by stuffy pomposity.
