Croydon isn't exactly top-of-mind when it comes to visiting museums, but this free exhibition at the town's exhibition gallery aims to challenge that. With a title inspired by the Arabian Nights, 1001 Inventions sheds light on the Muslim world's golden age of discovery. While the West languished in the Dark Ages, Islamic scholars, scientists and inventors created many of the products, concepts and practices that we now take for granted — from coffee and carpets to surgical tools and even rockets.
