After debuting at the 2006 Venice Biennale, Breda Beban's wonder of a film is now taking the rest of the continent by storm. At a riotous gathering of Romany musicians in Serbia, Beban's cinematic eye zooms in on a seductive moment between a belly dancer and a handsome young drunk. The short, split-screen installation offers two takes on the action — one in an unedited documentary format, the other with post-production techniques pushing it to sensory overload. Teasing out the tension, Beban transforms a fleeting glance into a taut romance filled with hips and lips on fire.
