The Royal Shakespeare Company descends upon Kilburn's Tricycle Theatre for the premiere of I'll Be the Devil. Written as a a response to The Tempest, this play, set in 18th century British-occupied Ireland, invites easy comparisons to modern occupations. The violence and brutality of the invading forces set the backdrop for a story of desire and desperation. Upon hearing that her soldier lover is leaving for England, the unnamed protagonist jeopardises her children and sets a series of tragic events in motion. Though Devil's young playwright, Leo Butler, has only a handful of works to his name, he has already been produced at the Royal Court and the National.
