Installation artist Isaac Julien puts on his curator's cap and examines the prolific career of controversial filmmaker and artist Derek Jarman, who died of an AIDS-related illness in 1994. The Serpentine Gallery's exhibition coincides with the release of Derek, Julien's documentary about Jarman, and offers a wholly absorbing, comprehensive package of Jarman's experimental works in Super 8 film. From 1993's Blue to his series of "black paintings", Jarman's works deal with issues of isolation, sexuality and beauty.
