Music: Rock/Pop Fanfarlo w/ Sleeping States

Hailing from London but channeling Scandinavian melancholy, Fanfarlo deliver their morose vocals with a wild abandon matched by few bands. The indie-pop sextet have been praised by Bowie himself, and they now return to the Luminaire to woo the crowd. Building on crescendos of fairy-tale glockenspiels, elf-like strings and dour brass, the players disperse any shoegazey tweeness with their frenetic energy. Markland Starkie's one-man band Sleeping States kicks off the evening with whacked-out beats, crazed samples, whispered vocals and irony-laden lyrics. The two bands join forces tonight to launch their split 7-inch on Felt Tip Records.
