Film Midnight Movies present Society (1989)

To beat the nightly pub migration, Curzon offers a midnight series of rare underground cinema, washed down with a cold bottle of Belgian beer. Cult Film Archive director Xavier Mendik guest hosts tonight's screening of Brian Yuzna's satirical gross-out Society (1989), and also introduces his new book, The Cult Film Reader. Yuzna's cinematic critique of American high society is terrifying for both its plot and its outdated fashion (shoulder-padded suits and big hair included), and, in the spirit of true horror gore, the nauseating prosthetics add a certain nihilistic sexual abandon. Sensitive stomachs beware.
