It's fitting that the Year of the Rat — a zodiac sign traditionally associated with enterprise and activity — coincides with the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing. In London, the spring festival stretches beyond the normal 15 days until the Olympic Flame Relay arrives on Sunday, 6 April. In addition to the monumental website and the perennial highlights — lantern lighting in Oxford Circus and the dragon-and-lion parade through Chinatown — there are tons of fringe events taking place. Expect cross-cultural marvels from Beijing hip-hop in the Royal Opera House to the premiere of the China Villagers documentary project at Rich Mix.
