Art 50 Years of CounterCulture: From the Beat Generation to a New Waste Land
-
- Peter Whitehead, Michael Horovitz and Allen Ginsberg chanting at the ICA, Courtesy London Print Studio
Swing back to the '60s with Michael Horovitz's presentation of 50 Years of CounterCulture: From the Beat Generation to a New Waste Land. Featuring a screening of Peter Whitehead's Wholly Communion (1965), which documents a gathering — or "international poetry incarnation", if you will — of beat poets at the Royal Albert Hall, Horovitz also takes in the Poetry Olympic festivals, as well as the New Departures publications and Live Departures roadshows. Held in conjunction with the AgitPop exhibition, the series encompasses the ever-changing act of rebellion and the continuous overlap of art and politics.
