- Ian Breakwell, Episode in a Small Town Library
No Letters brings together contemporary artworks that unpick assumptions about how we receive and digest public information — be it current affairs, gossip, news or everyday instructions. The title of the exhibition alludes to the opening line of a film made by the late Ian Breakwell, which presents everyday banalities as breaking news. Breakwell's 1969 Diary of found newspaper articles and handwritten texts is on show alongside Leigh Clark's paintings, which act as a rebuttal to the media's scaremongering by twisting bad news into good. Other works include Conor Kelly's filmic response to the splashes on the Hackney Gazette and Lucy Harrison's Library Bingo.
