More Flavor: Spectacle The Newspaper House

Since the launch of free rags like thelondonpaper and London Lite, discarded newspapers have become a real problem on the capital's public transport. Enter Turkish-Cypriot artist Sümer Erek, whose headline-worthy installation is sure to raise awareness of the issue. Over the course of one week, Erek constructs The Newspaper House of "sticks" made from rolled-up tabloids and broadsheets collected and donated by members of the public, sparking debate on waste, recycling and environmental preservation. Erek also encourages contributors to insert their own personal news into the journals they bring along, giving the piece a poignant, personal edge.
