More Flavor: Discussion From Rock Against Racism to Live 8: Musicians, Music and Mobilisation

The Centre for Contemporary Music Cultures' John Street presents this history of music and activism, investigating contemporary music's relationship to world affairs. In revisiting Rock Against Racism's punk outcry and Bob Geldof's ego-stroking concert extravaganzas Live Aid and Live 8, Street suggests that the altruistic gestures may have watered down their causes' credibility, turning good citizenship into hedonistic media frenzies that lost direction in the fog of rock 'n roll.
