To celebrate the release of his latest novel, Northline, Middle American troubadour Willy Vlautin reads excerpts from the odd tale of poverty-stricken Reno, Nevada. Northline takes outcasts as its subject — the same written-off individuals who populate many of the songs by Vlautin's folk outfit, Richmond Fontaine. Although Vlautin's writerly voice can be harsh in its realism, the author remains compassionate in his portrayal of his marginalized subjects. Vlautin's joined tonight by Paul Brainerd on lap steel — the pair perform songs from Northline's rootsy soundtrack.
