Flowers East says…

Ken Currie investigates the fine line separating civilisation from savagery. With its near-chiaroscuro depictions of horses, mating elephants and human grotesques, this collection also comments on the relation of predator and prey, spectator and subject. A hunter, portrayed with gun and exposed penis, becomes yet another male animal; a woman picking a tick from her thigh appears much like a wild beast. The deep black surrounding these figures in the frame suggests internal trauma and decay, forces that Currie sees as universal.
