If you're in the mood for social decay, morally repugnant characters and simmering violence, head to Royal Court Theatre, where Martin Crimp's The City takes centre stage during the coming weeks. Crimp, who has build a reputation for the unconventional (he's best known for the oddly structured Attempts on Her Life, which has been translated into 20 languages), teams up with director Katie Mitchell to explore such weighty topics as infidelity and suicide through the lives of three characters. The unsettling mystery — which comes with more than a few laughs — is another triumph for the veteran playwright.
