Spawned from a meeting-of-the-models in the fantasy land of Ryan McGinley's photographs, the Virgins have been together for just over a year, but in that time they've already played with Sonic Youth and Patti Smith. Aside from the band's connectedness, their success can be attributed to a gritty, catchy sound and poetic lyrics inspired by the streets, sex and drugs of NYC's Lower East Side. Astoria's second room is curated by Goodbye! Mother, and deafening sets of prog, punk and Krautrock are on the menu. As an alternative to the sadly defunct Frog, PUSH offers new, loud music with a solid sense of style.
