Supported by a voice capable of Prince-style falsetto and a low, James Brown purr, Jamie Lidell's sound is a fascinating voyage through the musical ages. His songs are steeped in the classic '60s soul of Motown and Stax stables, but his love of '80s funk and the left-field electronica of Matthew Herbert and Aphex Twin elevates his work beyond mere pastiche. The Cambridge-born, Berlin-based songwriter's first musical foray was a collaboration with techno demi-god Cristian Vogel, and this early influence comes through in his stunning live shows.
