Dour Scotsman Iain Petrie, who is at the fore of what has been called "organic Celtic soul", offers his debut album, I'll Stay By You, on new Scotch label Fourtrak. Petrie evokes his homeland's rustic highlands with subtle fingerpicking, catchy hooks and honest, melancholic vocals. But he isn't limited to Glasgow-grey-colored ballads; Petrie and his quartet blend jazz, folk and slick old-school pop into mellow songs that swirl around Beach Boys-esque harmonies. They're ideal tunes for nursing a pint and/or contemplating the serenity of a Northern sunset.
