Art May 68: Street Posters from the Paris Rebellion
-
- Anonymous, The Struggle Continues, Collection of Johan Kugelberg, Courtesy Southbank Centre
With all of the protests and civil unrest going on, 1968 wasn't the best year to take a trip to Paris. The Hayward Gallery marks the 40th anniversary of both its foundation and 1968's large-scale rebellion against Charles de Gaulle's France with an exhibition of anonymous posters by the era's art students and disenfranchised workers. The collection's 46 posters are graphically innovative and politically charged — works of art whose meaning extends beyond their volatile year of origin.
