In her solo exhibition at Camden Arts Centre this month, Glaswegian installation artist Claire Barclay displays an array of deliciously subversive creations that teeter on the brink of transformation. The artist, who revels in exploring the delicacy of a balancing act, has made the tension between chaos and order something of a signature theme. The large pieces utilise all manner of materials, including ceramics, leather and metal, to respond directly to the environment they inhabit, with manipulated objects used as "three-dimensional drawings in space". The desired effect is for spectators to be alternately fascinated and disturbed.
