No one could have foreseen Leslie Feist's slingshot rise to indie stardom. Actually, on second thought, wasn't it always kind of obvious? After all, Feist's music is made with the same ineffable magic as our timeworn classics: simple, catchy songwriting; personal lyrics with universal appeal; and the kind of warm, impossibly emotive voice that could turn a straight-faced reading into an open invitation to weep. Her latest album, The Reminder, further cements the singer's status as Canadian indie rock's queen, boasting lovelorn gems, from "1, 2, 3, 4"'s irrepressible, iPod-approved bounce to a moody, percussion-heavy (and retitled) rendition of Nina Simone's "See Line Woman."
