ArtHans Josephsohn

It's impressive that figurative sculptor Hans Josephsohn is still active in his practice at age 87 — and more so that his new works are being hailed as his most ambitious to date. Hauser & Wirth London look back over the prolific career of the German-born, Zurich-based Josephsohn, who's kept a very low profile outside of Switzerland. His works reflect a similar reluctance to come forward; the sculptures on display, dating from the '50s to the present day, are silent mediations on the human form. From Egyptian-inspired symmetrical figures to primitive beings seemingly hewn from rock, Josephsohn conveys the materiality as well as the mystery of the human body. [Info Source]
