While an exquisite Louboutin heel or Mies van der Rohe chaise won't prolong anyone's life, design is playing an increasingly crucial role in the world of medical science. For instance, designers in the field of nanotechnology can help surgeons perform less invasive operations. Tonight, the Wellcome Collection hosts a panel discussion on the topic, hearing viewpoints from the Royal College of Art's Sally Halls, Jim Dawton of medical product-design company Pearson Matthews (responsible for the award-winning Clevername sticking plasters), RIBA president Sunand Prasad and the Wellcome Collection's own Ken Arnold. Journalist and curator Henrietta Thompson oversees the proceedings.
