Performing Arts: Theatre Pygmalion
-
- Tim Pigott-Smith stars in Pygmalion
George Bernard Shaw's rags-to-riches tale was made famous by George Cukor's 1964 film musical My Fair Lady, which starred Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins — a misogynistic linguist who wagers he can transform Audrey Hepburn's Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a lady. In Sir Peter Hall's theatre production, Tim Pigott-Smith takes on the professorially pompous role, while newcomer Michelle Dockery shines as the spirited Eliza. Both are ably supported by an outstanding comedic cast, including Una Stubbs as Higgins' housekeeper and Tony Haygarth as Eliza's father.
