The second Atmospheres festival surveys the strange world of field recording and natural sound. During the day, Alex Metcalf demonstrates that trees actually make noise, by amplifying the water that seeps through their trunks. Meanwhile, "Hauntology Now!" takes sound as a philosophical medium, providing a discussion of the intense nostalgia that pervades music and music venues. In the evenings, Atmospheres gives over to live performances from multimedia composer Philip Jeck and fuzzy electronic arrangements from Fennesz. Kode9 & Spaceape, the Caretaker and an additional set from Jeck cap off the festival with a wild mix of dubstep, techno and experimental compositions.
