Art Matthew Harrison

On display at Hoxton's new Limoncello Gallery are playfully quirky mixed-media works from Matthew Harrison. The young designer pays homage to a number of artists and movements in his work — colourful t-shirts feature prints of Dadaist Marcel Duchamp's arm, and a door handle and doorstop echo Vorticist patterns. Harrison is also fascinated with air, labeling vessels with the source of their contained oxygen, be it a pair of Nike Air Max trainers with air from China, or bicycle wheels pumped full in Paris. Harrison's humour belies his deeper insights on art as commodity and the perversions of a globalised world, where even molecules of gas can be branded.
